Judge extends Megan Thee Stallion’s protection order against rapper Tory Lanez until 2030

Megan Thee Stallion has successfully obtained a restraining order against imprisoned rapper Tory Lanez until early 2030. This decision was made by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Richard Bloom after Megan accused Lanez of harassing her from prison through intermediaries while he serves a 10-year sentence for shooting her in the feet.
During a hearing, Michael Hayden, Lanez’s lawyer, argued against the restraining order, claiming that his client’s incarceration eliminated any current or future threat to Megan. Hayden also mentioned that there had been no direct contact between Lanez and Megan recently. Despite Hayden’s objections, Judge Bloom ruled in favor of Megan, granting her request for a protective order until January 9, 2030.
Following the hearing, Hayden did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The decision to extend the temporary restraining order was based on the evidence presented by Megan’s legal team, meeting the burden of proof required for the extension.
Megan initially obtained a temporary restraining order in November, alleging that Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was using third parties to continue harassing her online. The petition submitted by Megan stated that call logs from the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi indicated Lanez was coordinating attacks on her credibility, including spreading false claims about missing gun and bullet fragments related to the case.
In December 2022, Lanez was convicted of three felonies in connection to the shooting incident: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. Despite a motion for a new trial being rejected by a judge, Lanez’s legal team is currently appealing his conviction.
During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez had fired the gun at her feet and instructed her to dance as she walked away from a vehicle following a party at Kylie Jenner’s home in Hollywood Hills. Megan, who was already a rising star in the music industry at the time of the incident, has since experienced a surge in popularity. She has achieved significant success, winning a Grammy for best new artist in 2021 and securing No. 1 singles with hits like “Savage” featuring Beyoncé and as a featured artist on Cardi B’s “WAP.”
Lanez, on the other hand, began his music career in 2009 with mixtapes and gradually gained popularity, eventually releasing major label albums that reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s charts. The ongoing legal battle and Megan’s successful bid for a restraining order highlight the complexities of their tumultuous relationship and the impact it has had on both their careers.
