He met his wife, Blodwen, at a dance and married her during World War II while serving in the Royal Army Pay Corps. Despite his advanced age, Tinniswood remained mentally active, keeping up with the news and managing his own finances. He received a birthday card from Queen Elizabeth every year from the age of 100 to 110, showcasing the longevity of his life.

Known for his love of battered fish and chips, Tinniswood followed no special diet but attributed his long life to luck. When awarded the title of the world’s oldest man, he humbly stated that longevity was a matter of chance.
