Montreal man wins $40 million in Lotto-Max jackpot

Montreal Man Wins Half of $80 Million Lotto-Max Jackpot

A fortunate Montreal man, Jean Lamontagne, aged 63, is now a multimillionaire after winning half of the $80 million Lotto-Max jackpot. Lamontagne was in disbelief when he checked his phone on Dec. 3 and saw the winning numbers. He even restarted his phone, thinking it was a mistake.

Lamontagne, who typically plays the same numbers, shared the exciting news with his boss and announced his early retirement from the factory where he worked. Despite his newfound wealth, he returned to work a few days later and treated his colleagues to pizza to celebrate his win.

The jackpot was split with another lucky winner from Alberta. Loto-Quebec revealed that in 2024, Quebecers have won over $1 million in lottery prizes.

According to Loto-Quebec spokesperson Renaud Dugas, this is the largest jackpot ever won in Canada, with Quebec being the location of the second partial win. In September, retired physical education teacher Bernard Morisette from Outaouais won the other half of the $80 million jackpot.

Lamontagne expressed that he plans to maintain a modest lifestyle, continuing to live in a normal house and drive a regular car. However, he intends to invest part of his winnings in real estate, purchasing multiplexes for his children, brother, and sisters-in-law.

Despite his newfound wealth, Lamontagne emphasized that he will use the money to travel in Europe and spoil his family but insisted that Christmas celebrations will remain unchanged.
